About Phi Sigma Pi: Delta Omega Chapter

Phi Sigma Pi is a Co-Ed National Honor Fraternity founded on February 14, 1916 at Central Missouri State University. The National Fraternity has evolved from an honorary professional fraternity to a professional education fraternity and then, in 1966, to an honor fraternity for all disciplines. Currently, there are chapters chartered throughout the Mid-West and East Coast, as well as a chapter on the West Coast, the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi, the only honor fraternity at the University of California, Berkeley. National Staff Director of Member Services, Hoyt Craver, proudly dubbed the Delta Omega Chapter the "Dream Fraternity," in reference to the National Office's astonishment at Delta Omega's capability to establish itself extremely successfully with little help from the National Office. Delta Omega received its charter on April 13, 2002.

Phi Sigma Pi is one-third honor society, one-third service organization and one-third social fraternity; we seek to incorporate the best and most beneficial aspects of all of these types of organizations into its own program. By balancing this tripod of organizations, our members achieve success as scholars and professionals.

The question we get asked the most is, "What is the difference between an honors fraternity and an honors society?" The essential difference between an honor fraternity and an honor society is that an honor society is an association rather than an organization and it functions mainly to recognize the past academic achievements of its potential members. The honor fraternity seeks to cultivate the strengths of its members in order to better serve the community in which it operates, both presently and in the future. In Phi Sigma Pi, while we do celebrate your past success and hold our members to high standards of excellence, we challenge our members to grow in three different directions: scholarship, leadership, and fellowship.

Success in life is not simply dependent upon what you know, but also who you know and Phi Sigma Pi offers its members a unique opportunity to meet people both at Cal and at other colleges and universities across the country who have achieved similar academic status in a variety of majors and backgrounds.

With a new initiate class inducted every semester, Delta Omega is an ever-growing and ever-learning chapter. Continually striving to promote the three ideals of the Phi Sigma Pi tripod -- scholarship, leadership and fellowship -- it is an exciting and profound experience to be a part of the unceasing friendships and boundless support found within the organization.
